THESE ARE THE ACTUAL
BOUNDARIES OF "PALESTINE"

PALESTINE

IRAQ

JEWISH! ARAB

SINAI

The British Mandate, 1920

This the "Palestine" promoted
by the Arab states, many jour-
nalists and TIME magazihe.

This the Palestine recognized by the Balfour Declaration, the
League of Nations, the United Nations Charter and the American
Congress. It Includes Jordan (the Arab Palestina) and Israel (the
Jewish Palestine).

LIES about the boundaries of Palestine are being used to
justify a campaign of terrorism and murder of Jews and
those at peace with Jews.

Those calling themselves "Palestinians" say they are a
homeless, stateless people driven from their land. THEY LIE.

There is already an independent Arab Country of "Pales-
tine." It is JORDAN their homeland, along with the other
Arab states.

"Chanukah — Its His-
tory, Observance and Sig-
nificance" is an English
book. It contains a limited
number of pages in Hebrew,
including quotes from
prayers. Yet it was pub-
lished to be read from right
to left in the Hebraic fash-
ion.
This is the traditionalism
of this book, published by
Mesorah Publications, Ltd.,
publishers of the ArtScroll
Mesorah Series.
In the book, Rabbi Hersh
Goldwurm, a noted scholar
and writer, offers an un-
usual prespective on the
reason behind the festival of
Hanuka.
According to Rabbi
Goldwurm, the festival
was declared 25 years be-
fore the Jewish military
victory over Syria. What
is more, Judah the Mac-
cabee, leader and hero of
the Jewish rebellion, laid
down his arms and re-
turned to his tiny Judean
village of Modi'in while
nearly all of Jerusalem
and the entire coun-
tryside were still under
the control of hostile
forces.
The event that prompted
the proclamation of the fes-
tival was the liberation of
the Holy Temple in
Jerusalem and its cleansing
after three years of desecra-
tion by the occupation army
of King Antiochus. It was
then, in 165 BCE, that the
famous jug of pure olive oil
was discovered and the
"Miracle of Lights" took
place.
As Rabbi Goldwurm de-
picts it, Hanuka primarily
celebrates freedom of reli-
gion, not military prowess.
The three-part book
studies Hanuka from the
Orthodox vantage point.
The book begins with a
philosophic exposition
on the religious sym-
bolism and significance
of Hanuka. Then comes
Rabbi Goldwurm's his-
tory, which he follows up
with two of the most
famous tales in talmudic
literature: that of Han-
nah and her seven sons,
and the story of the
Jewess who seduced and
slew an army general.
The last section of the
book presents the prayers,
Psalms and songs of the
candlelighting service, fully

translated and with an ex-
tensive commentary; the
religious laws of Hanuka
and a lengthy and varied
section of rabbinic insights.
The philosophical intro-
duction was written by
Rabbi Nosson Scherman
and the parts on the prayers
and rabbinic insights by
Rabbi M-eir Zlotowitz.
Scherman and Zlotowitz are
general editors of the
ArtScroll Series.
