The Best of Everything

YOU HEAR LAUGH-
TER and gaiety all around
. . . and forget there's a
world outside with so many
problems . . . This is the at-
mosphere at Dr. Doodle's,
opened Aug. 30 on Grand
River near 10 Mile, between
Halstead and Haggerty.
It's owned by Marty
Eisner and Mike McClain,
vho also own the two Six-
pence Restaurants on De-
troit's east side.

Seating about 180 capac-
ity in a dining area and
lounge bar, Dr. Doodle's
seems to thrive on fun .. .
with people their own enter-
tainment.
The very unusual and
extremely innovative
menu is a combination of
everything from salads to
burgers to pizza to
sandwiches to desserts
galore to coffee drinks, to
ice cream drinks to var-

ribs (which many con-
sider the best around) to
dinners like filet of sole
almondine, sirloin steak,
Boston scrod, lasagna,
etc. ... including the
homemade soups made
by Hatti Williams.
Only thing left off the
huge menu seems to be
Chinese food . . . and even
those are put on some of the
specials . . . One of Dr. Doo-
dle's chefs at one time
cooked in a Chinese re-
staurant . . . although he is
not oriental.
Another big plus is the
manager at Dr. Doodle's .. .
Sue Salvaggio . . . a person-
able young lady who. is al-

any problems may occur .. .
kitchen, behind the bar or
whatever . . . This is the
most extreme facet of a good
restaurant manager .. .
being able to answer ques-
tions . . . and pitch in should
an emergency ever arise.
In the evenings, there's
the pleasant smile of hos-
tess Ruth Schechter to greet
folks with gracious warmth.
Smiles by the
employees are a big fac-
tor ... and it's a pleasure
to watch girls like wait-
ress Brenda Benson so
courteous, efficient and
competent . . . Service is a
big thing at Dr. Doodle's
... along with the Greek,

Dr. Doodle's is a vast dif-
ference from its predecessor
at the same locale, The In-
terchange . . . like night and
day . . . The place was just
about gutted by Marty and
Mike . . . with results that
have made it an extremely
popular place to go . . . Be-
fore remodeling, one of the
areas had been a closet for
napkins, etc. .' . Now it is a
little romantic booth for two
persons.
An antique carousel pony
from Atlanta, many years
old, stands above one of the
dining area's high-backed
booths . . . Other interesting
antiques are strewn about
the inimate atmosphere .. .
Informal dining and fun are
the key words for Dr. Doo-
dle's, as people from all
walks of life join each other.
Unless in a private booth,
you may be seated next to a
stage or sports celebrity,
bank executive or blue col-
lar worker . . . each enjoying
his or herself . . . and look-
ing forward to when they'll
be back again.
