German Youth
Know Little
About Nazism

BONN (JTA) - West
German high school stu-
dents are much less know-
ledgeable about the Nazi
persecution of Jews and the
Nuremberg racial laws
than their counterparts
were 20 years ago, accord-
ing to a survey by the Uni-
versity of Giessen con-
ducted in the federal state of
Hessen.
At the same time, despite
their lack of knowledge, to-
day's high school students
reject the Nazi ideology
much more clearly and
strongly than did the stu-
dents of two decades ago,
the survey showed.
The results showed that
male students are better in-
formed than female stu-
dents.
The survey confirmed the
findings by previous public
opinion polls that the im-
pact of the American televi-
sion series "Holocaust,"
which was broadcast in
West Germany in 1979,
evaporated rapidly.
