In addition to these local awards, Ackerman was honored two years ago by the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Semi- nary with a scholarship in his name by the Cantors As- sembly with funds raised by members of his congrega- tion. This scholarship is used to assist students who are studying for admission to the cantorate. He received several hon- ors from State of Israel Bonds and the commenda- tion of the Israel Bond organization and the state of Israel. The list of his member- ships includes the Mizrachi Organization, Bar-Ilan University, Diskin Or- phanage Home, Jabotinsky Society of Herut Zionists of America and Labor Zionist Alliance. He has appeared before the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah Ladies Auxiliary, Jewish Home for the Aged and many other organiza- tions. Cantor Ackerman has served as a past president of the Cantor's Council of Met- ropolitan Detroit. He is pre- sently a member of the executive council of the Cantor's Assembly, the na- tional body of Conservative Cantors.
