rael, David Herman, has
written .a song about Soviet
Prisoner of Conscience
Anatoly Shcharansky to
help publicize his plight.
Shcharansky was sen-
tenced to 13 years in prison
on fabricated charges of spy-
ing for the U.S.
Shcharansky was a leader
of the Jewish emigration
movement in the Soviet
Union and his wife, Avital,
lives in Israel.
Herman's composition is

UJA Will Plan
1983 Campaign

NEW YORK — Jewish
leaders from throughout the
U.S. will participate in the
United Jewish Appeal's na-
tional campaign policy
board meeting next week at
the Waldorf Astoria Hotel
to begin initial planning for
the 1983 campaign.
In addition, the UJA has
begun a nationwide year-
end cash collection drive to
overcome a projected
shortfall in collections of
$13 million.

Zaire to Resume
Ties With Israel?

WASHINGTON — The
president of Zaire told U.S.
officials Wednesday that his
country is prepared to
renew ties with Israel, but
will wait to see how other
black African states ap-
proach the issue.

Seko said Zaire broke rela-
tions with Israel out of sym-
pathy with Egypt. Now, he
said, the situation has
changed because Egypt and
Israel have diplomatic rela-
tions.
