THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 56 Friday, lionember 21, 1981 Cheerful Jerusalem Message Marks Gorrelick Bond Fete . A cheerful message from Jerusalem, with hopes for peace and a report of good relations with the Arabs there, marked the testimo- nial dinner in honor of Rabbi Benjamin Gorrelick, at Cong. Beth Achim on Nov. 19. Sponsored by the Israel Bond organization, the event, attended by more than 300, was in honor of Rabbi Gorrelick's 75th birthday and in recognition of his many services here. The encouraging reports were by the guest speaker, Ambassador Zvi Brosh, ad- viser to Mayor Teddy Kol- lek of Jerusalem who has gifqmm - Ceresnie-'& held many important posi- tions in many lands in the Israel Foreign Ministry. Ambassador Brosh con- ceded there are many prob- lems, emphasizing that the economic even in their seri- ous stages can be resolved. It was in relation to Jerusalem that he declared that the good relations be- tween Jews and Arabs there, under the Kollek leadership, is evidence that the Arab population recog- nizes the benefits from friendliness established there, the opportunities provided for unimpeded business activities, the preference the Jerusalem Arabs show for this type of cooperation, rejecting the terrorism that harms all. On that basis, Brosh said, the hope for peace and for amity among all faiths is never injured. He gave an analysis of the benefits that must come for all from the projected Mediterranean-to-Dead Sea Canal project and expressed the appreciation of the Is- rael government and people for the progress made thus far in assuring the creation of the irrigation project. This became apparent when State Department deputy spokesman Alan Romberg said the U.S. and the Saudis were "working on a mutu- ally convenient date" for Fand's- visit. It could take place "after the first of the year," he said. A State Department source said later that neither the U.S. nor the Saudis were holding up the visit but that they only have not been able to agree on, a date that was convenient both to the Reagan Ad- ministration and Saudi Arabia. Program participants who joined in honoring Rabbi Gorrelick included George Rossman, president of the synagogue, and William Liberson, who gave the toast to the honoree, and Judy Phillips, president of the sisterhood.
