The Truth Does Not Hurt
By GERTRUDE GRAY
It was a navy blue, dotted
swiss dress I wore. I greeted
my two friends in passing
and one of them stopped me
and admired my dress. She
is experienced in quality
and workmanship and she
closely examined the dots,.,
material, stitching, etc.
They loved my dress.
In a hushed voice, she

Poised near the arch of a rainbow,
Watching Cloud Nine go drifting by,
Aware I'm in an ethereal world
Because of a girl and a guy.
The colors are brilliantly fused,
Spreading an aura over all,
Portending a beautiful future
When they are married in the fall.
I'm floating happily in the sky
Trying to realize
This is no dream or illusion,
Just a wonderful surprise.
The heart can't quite contain itself
When the message is this:
"Mom, I'm very much in love
And she's a darling miss."

Memories of long past youth I thread
like fading ribbons about my head
Thoughts of childhood hearth and home
these serve to comfort when I am alone
The lilt of children's laughter I seize
and gifts of friendship to give one's heart ease
Faint scented now is the perfume of love
soft as the breast of egret and dove
Daydreams of joy and of sorrow and strife
sparkling prisms — bell toned — in the winds of life.

Thank You
By ESTHER
FRANCES FRIEDMAN
-
We heap praise on some
person in a matter of fact
way. I -wonder if one should
relate to that person a
specific praise when that
person has done such a
magnificent, well done job?
It may be trivial, it can be
of vast importance. It can
even be meager, the
though" should be more
than a very polite "Thank
you" which in itself seems
enough and well meant.
But one begins to ponder
the "Thank you" phrase. It
is given casually, sincerely
asa matter of fact. Wouldn't
the world and all its beauti-
ful people be better if
"Thank you" were a
thousand words?

Following are some sam-
ples from the Writers' Jour-
nal:

I was sitting alone the
other night and my
thoughts were filled with
memories of the time I was
young. I can remember the
excitement I felt watching
my mother preparing ev-
erything for Pesach.
The air was filled with the
tantalizing aroma of the
various foods which the
family was anxious to get to
and enjoy. The Seders were
celebrated at our home and
various members were in-
♦ vited-to join in our celebra-
tion.
It was a joyful time and
we all looked forward to this
occasion. We were all laugh-
ing and teasing one another
until the festivities started.
Then everyone settled down
to the service at which my
dad officiated. He sat at the
head of the table.
I can still visualize the
whole procedure of the Sed-
said, "Would you mind tel-
ling me where you bought
it?" My reply was not
hushed, but straightfor-
ward. I said, "K-Mart." The
two of them doubled up in
laughter.
How could I lie and say,
"Saks Fifth Avenue?" Be-
cause my friend, was so com-
plimentary, the least I could
do was tell the truth. No one
laughs over a lie.
