said last week.
He was speaking after a
visit to Poland with his wife
as a guest of the Polish
Ministry of Religious Af-
fairs. Only apples and
potatoes, he said, stood be-
tween the Polish people and
starvation and British
Jewry wanted to help the
Jews of Warsaw in the same
way that the Caritas organ-
ization assumed responsi-
blity for Catholics.
Nevertheless, Janner was
full of praise for the atti-
tudes of the Polish govern-
ment to the remnant of a
Jewish community which
once numbered 3.5 million.
He paid similar compli-
ments to the governments of
Czechoslovakia and Hun-
gary which he also visited
earlier this month.

An appearance of deli-
cacy, and even of fragility, is
almost essential to beauty.

New MDA Blood Center
on Israel Government Site

TEL AVIV -- The Israeli
government has formally
leased a site to Magen
David Adorn for the new
MDA National Blood Serv-
ice Center, in Kiryat Ono, a
suburb of Tel Aviv, accord,
ing to Health Minister
Eliezer Shostak.
MDA will pay the gov-
ernment the Israeli equiv-
alent of $1 per year for the
approximately 21/2 acre lot.
The center, which is being
constructed at the request of
the government, will cost an
estimated $10 million.
Financing of the major un-
dertaking will be a joint
venture of American Red
Magen David for Israel and
Friends of MDA in Great
Britain and South Africa.

Meanwhile, a course in
cardio-pulmonary resus-
citation (CPR) life saving
technique is being of-
fered by Magen David
Adorn to the Israeli pub-

Program Enters
Its Fifth Year

NEW YORK — The Na-
tional Conference of
Synagogue Youth sponsors
an educational program
which allows teenagers
across the country to pursue
a course ofJewish studies at
home by corresponding with
a learning partner.
Entering its fifth year,
NCSY's Torah Corre-
spondence Program pairs
high school students with
college, yeshiva and semi-
nary students to exchange
tapes, letters and phone
calls on subjects ranging
from basic Hebrew reading
and the meaning of prayer
to more advanced study of
Bible, Jewish Law and
Ethics and the Oral Law.
Courses in the program are
personalized to suit the
interests and level-of ad-
vancement of each indi-
vidual student.
