Bonds Opens Re-Investment and Cash Collection Drives In response to a special appeal by Israel's Finance Minister, the national Is- rael Bond Organization has launched a campaign for new Israel Bond purchases and cash collection of un- paid 1981 Bond subscrip- tions, it was reported by Sam Rich, Metro Detroit Is- rael Bond general chair- man. He said Detroit's cash campaign, in effect through Dec. 19, must meet a $3 mil- lion goal in order to realize Detroit's share of this na- tional effort and to help Is- rael meet its financial needs of the next 60 days. Rich announced that Harold Beznos, Metro De- troit Israel Bond executive board member, has accepted the role of cash collection chairman. Special committees are now being formed in each synagogue at which events were held for Is- rael Bonds this past year, with the guests of honor and event chairmen hold- ing key roles in the cash collection effort. A cash collection drive by the Women's Division is under the leadership of Leah Snider. Volunteers will form telephone squads and have face-to-face meet- ings for both collection and new sales. To chart the success of the campaign, "Cash Collection Barometers" will be dis- played in key community buildings, with results posted daily. Results of the campaign will be reported at special meetings to be held Dec. 6 and 13. At the same time, a drive is under way to reach all holders of matured Israel Bonds to secure reinvest- ment of the proceeds during November and December. Max • Nosanchuk, chairman for reinvest- ment of the Detroit Israel Bond campaign, said Temple •Emanu-El will host a joint ecumenical Thanksgiving service '7:30 p.m. Sunday in the temple. Joining the congregation will be St. Bede's Catholic Church and First United Methodist Church. Parts of the liturgy of all three con- gregations will be used in the service and the choirs from the participating tem- ple and churches will sing. Theme of the service is "We Gather Together." "Israel faces new chal- lenges in the months ahead," he explained. "The terms of the Israel-Egypt peace treaty stipulate that Israel must withdraw from the Sinai in April 1982. This means the Negev must be made economically viable for the thousands who must move there from the Sinai. Israel Bond reinvestment is an excellent way to help meet this challenge." Nosanchuk said the De- troit community's response to the reinvestment cam- paign has been positive and the -number of reinvest- ments thus far are exceed- ing last year's at this date. When in the company of sensible men, we ought to be doubly cautious of talking too much, lest we lose two good things — their good opinion and our own im- provement.
