Christian Group
Makes Good
on Kibutz Pledge

TORONTO — A Chris-
tian Pentacostal-type
church in Vancouver, which
formed an organization
called "Christian Bridges to
Israel" two years ago and
pledged $1 million to the
Jewish National Fund
towards the funding of the
infrastructure of a new
kibutz in the Galilee, has
already transferred
$300,000 to Israel.
In addition, the Glad Tid-
ings Church under the lead-
ership.of its pastor, the Rev.
Maureen Gaglardi, had ar-
ranged four tours to Israel
during the past two years.
The kibutz it is helping is
Kibutz David in the JNF's
Galil Canada project.
The Christian Bridges to
- Israel organization was
begun in the spring of 1979
- when the Rev. Jacob
Hurst, an Episcopal (Angli-
can) priest from Georgia
met Gaglardi in Vancouver
and they discovered their
mutual love for and interest
in Israel.-In 1980 Hurst took
a leave of absence from his
parish to work full time
with Gaglardi on the Israel
program.

programs and ceremonials.

troduced Wiesel.
David Hermelin, Phil-
lip Stollman, Philip
Slomovitz and Jack
Shenkman addressed the
assembled.
The program's partici-
pants spoke with praise for
the gifts to Jewry by both
Morris and Emma Scheyer.
They expressed gratitude
for their roles in the devo-
tional tasks of Chabad,
their leadership in Zionist
affairs, movements in sup-
port of Israel and aid in
encouraging musicians and
in advancing musical proj-
ects.
