still in progress, recorded a
total of $511 million in
pledges as of last Friday, a
new peacetime high.
The previous record for a
year without open war in-
volving Israel was the
$508.5 registered by the
total 1980 campaign.
According to 'the report
released by national UJA
headquarters Tuesday, Fri-
day's milestone achieve-
ment represents a card-for-
card increase of 11.8 percent
over the previous year.
The 1982 drive, show-
ing a pledge total of $81.9
million to date, is running
24.0 percent ahead of
1981.
Marked progress is also
being made in Project Re-
newal, the report revealed,
with total pledges for the
vast social and physical re-
habilitation program for
distressed Israel neighbor-
hoods nearing the $100 mil-
lion mark since its incep-
tion.
Much of the current reg-
ular campaign's success is
attributed by the report to
the continuing high level of
1982 fund-raising achieve-
ment produced by UJA's in-
tensified program of mis-
sions to Israel.
Four missions returning
last week, involving 520
participants, amassed a
regular campaign pledge
total of $5,764,301 com-
pared to $4,357,070 from
the same contributors last
year, for an increase of 32.3
percent.

neo,Nazi organizations or
groups still active in
France. Deferre, speaking
on Armistice Day to a
'gathering of French war
veterans, said:
"I shall feel satisfied that
the neo-Nazis are no longer
dangerous only when those
responsible for the Rue
Copernic synagogue bomb
attack will be arrested and
brought to-trial."

Inflation Rate
Higher; - Officials
Dissappointed
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The rate of inflation for the
month of October was nine
percent, according to official
figures issued Sunday by
the Central Bureau of
Statistics.
The figure represented a
blow to Treasury efforts to
control inflation. But the
Treasury stated: "We are
doing what is possible to
lower the rate of inflation."
The October figure
brought the rate for the first
10 months of the year_up to
81 percent. Some economic
observers predicted that the
annual rate for the calendar
year would now top 100 per-
cent. Finance Minister
Yoram Aridor had hoped to
bring the annual rate down
to two digits this year.
