Saudi 'Confrontation State' Status Linked to Overflights TEL AVIV (JTA) — The reason for the overflights by Israeli Air Force planes into Saudi Arabian territory near the Tabak air base, announced by Riyadh but not confirmed here offi- cially, is probably to be found in Defense Minister Ariel Sharon's warning Monday that Saudi Arabia would henceforth be consid- ered a "confrontation state." Observers here say the flights, which have repor- tedly been going on for some time, were -designed to underline the warning to the Saudis. The Foreign Ministry said it knew nothing of the flights, while the Defense Ministry and army spokes- men declined to comment on the reports. Addressing foreign correspondents in Tel Aviv Monday, Sharon said: "The only target of these weapons (the AWACS and beefed-up F-15s) is Israel, and it is a mistake to think the Saudis are moderate.
