Technological Gains Are Listed
at Annual Technion Dinner

Local, national and Is-
raeli leaders pooled forces at
the annual dinner of the De-
troit. Chapter of American
Technion Society, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue on Sun-
day evening, to emphasize
the need for technological
advancement to retain Is-
rael's progressive activities.
President Amos Horev of
the Israel Institute of
Technology-Technion in
Haifa, Israel, as guest
speaker, expressed confi-
dence that the current polit-
ical difficulties can be
shouldered, and that the
major difficulties are those
created by economics and
the need to provide the
Jewish state with the
means of creating product-
ive industrial process. By
such means, by producing
sufficiently for export, Is-
rael can meet the needs
necessary as an assurance
for security.
Gen. Horev, a native Is-
raeli who had an important
role in the formation of his
country's military organ-
ization, in referring to the
latest Saudi proposals for
Israel to submit to Arab
pressures, especially on
Jerusalem, declared:
"Jerusalem will never
be divided again and
there will not be a Pales-
tinian state to molest Is-
rael."

D. Dan Kahn, chairman and Sophie (Mrs. Sig-
of the board of Detroit mund) Rohlik. Respond-

Saul Seigel, executive vice Gerald Brody, grandson
president of the American of the Brodys; Laura Be-
Technion Society; Paul rman, granddaughter of
Zuckerman, who introduced the Mendelsons; and
General Horev; and Louis Evan Miller, grandson of
Milgrom, president of De- How. d Goodman who

A movie portraying the
Israel in training technolog- Technion activities was
ical experts
shown during the evening.
Describing the leadership Salman Grand gave the
of Technion in the entire opening prayer.

Middle East as the leading
university devoted to
technological needs, they
invited increased support
here for the university.
Sam Rich, as chairman of
the $6,000,000 drive for a
Detroit-financed 'Michigan
dormitory on the Technion
City campus, said that the
most serious problem at
Technion is housing. Appe-
aling for support for the
project, he said that
$200,000 had already been
pledged to the fund.

A feature of interest at
the Technion dinner was
the presentation of
plaques to three women
whose husbands were
among the most generous
supporters of Technion.
They are Anne (Mrs.
Samuel) Brody, Esther
(Mrs. Morris) Mendelson
