The Council of Orthodox
Rabbis of Metropolitan De-
troit is certainly to be
praised for its courageous
re-evaluation and for the
new stand that it has taken
with . regards to the
authorization of an eruv for
this community. This his-
toric decision will inform fu-
ture generations that the
rabbinate conscientiously
subscribed to the dictum
vox populi vox Dei, "the
voice of the people is the
voice of the Almighty."
It takes courage to make a
stand and rescind it for the
betterment of Klal Yisroel,
to subdue one's ego and
enhance Jewish living
within the framework of the
Halakha.
