Program Aids
Israel Youth

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Some 2,500 university stu-

dents from development
towns throughout Israel are
involved this year in Jewish
Agency-sponsored, pro-
grams to aid youth in their
hometowns.
The scheme, conceived
several years ago by Jewish
Agency chairman Leon
Dulzin, provides for the
agency to finance these stu-
dents' university studies —
for which, in return, the
students devote several
hours per week to coaching
and youth work among the
youngsters in their
hometowns.
The project began eight
years agO with 65 students,
Dulzin recalled this week at
a gathering to mark the
start of the new academic
year. Now it encompasses
activities in 52 places
around the country — both
development town and dis-
advantaged suburbs of the
large cities.

zhak Korn, a member of the
Central Committee of Is-
rael's opposition Labor
Party charged that Premier
Menahem Begin's recent at-
tacks on kibutzim and other
officials' attacks on the His-
tadrut "shake the base of
the pioneering structure
and can destroy the pillars
of Israeli society."
Korn, a leafier in the
World Zionist movement,
asserted that the only
"counterweight against a
tendency to careerism in Is-
rael among the people are
Labor institutions which
believe in progressive
democracy, values based on
the ideals of kibutzim and
on the principles of the early
founders of Israel."
Addressing a meeting in
New York of the National
Council of the League of
Friends of Labor Israel,
Korn said that it wa9 "vital
to have a larger periphery"
of Jews through the world
who will show solidarity
with the kibutzim and His-
tadrut in Israel especially
since, he added, "the pre-
sent government of Israel
often attacks pioneering
groups in the Jewish state:"
Several hundred dele-
gates attended the
gathering of the league

which Korn described as
"an independent group
which sympathizes with
the ideals of Israeli
labor."
Korn said that he hoped
the government would not
attack kibutzim, since a
great number of Sephardim
in Israel do not belong to
kibutzim, and that "an at-
tack by the prime minister
of Israel on kibutzim which
declares that the settle-
ments are rich further
exacerbates tensions be-
tween Ashkenazim and
Sephardim."

NEW YORK — A three-
day conference on Jewish
sexual values will be spon-
sored by the Central Con-
ference of American Rabbis
beginning Monday in New
York.
The conference, which
takes the theme, "The Sex-
ual Revolution — Where
Does Reform Judaism
Stand," will hear addresses
by Rabbi Eugene, B.
Borowitz, Robert Gordis
and Dr. Sol Gordon.

Whoever is wise is apt to
suspect and be diffident of
himself, and upon that ac-
count is willing to hearken
unto counsel.
