gation when it erected a
building at Seven Mile Road
and Greenlawn and in 1971
when it relocated in West
Bloomfield.
Rabbi Halpern studied at
the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan
Theological Seminary and
Yeshiva College in New
York, and holds a master's
degree in sociology from the
University of Detroit.
He was ordained at the
Yeshiva of Radun (Po-
land) by the rosh yeshiva,
Rabbi Mendel Zaks, son-
in-law of the Chafetz
Chaim of Radun.

Bnai Moshe Bond Dinner
Will Honor Shalom Ralph

Cong. Bnai Moshe will
honor Shalom Ralph, for
more than 33 years the
ritual director (sexton) of
the synagogue, at the an-
nual Bnai Moshe Israel
Bond dinner on Dec. 6 in the
synagogue's social hall. The
announcement was made by
Dr. Leonard Demak, con-
gregation president, and
Rabbi Stanley Rosenbaum.
The dinner will be
chaired by Bernard Klein
and Abraham Pasternak. A
tribute committee is in for-
mation.
Ralph was born in Po-
land, the younger of two
brothers and a half-sister.
His father was a "yeshiva
bokhur"; his mother died
when Shalom was three.
His father re-married and
the Ralph family later
moved to Palestine where
Shalom was educated at Bet
Sayfer . Tachkemoni in
Jerusalem. When the fam-
ily immigrated to. the
United States, they eventu-
ally settled in Detroit where
a livelihood was earned at
their confectionary store in
Hamtramck.
Ralph became active
in Mizrachi and in the

Young Israel movement._

SHALOM RALPH

Ralph accepted the posi-
tion of sexton of Bnai Moshe
in 1948. In addition to his
duties with the synagogue
he has been an active He-
brew and Bar Mitzva tutor
and a certified mohel.
The honoree is a member
of Pisgah Lodge of Bnai
Brith, Red Magen David,
Friends of Shaare Zedek
Hospital in Jerusalem and
Bichur Cholim Hospital,
Jerusalem.
Ralph will be the reci-
pient of the "Lion of
Judah-Peace Award." For
