Sharon Outlines Events He Says Israel Won't Tolerate
.
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Defense Minister Ariel
Sharon enumerated a series
of developments last week
which, he said Israel would
never tolerate. They in-
cluded the manufacture or
possession of nuclear
weapons by an Arab state, a
Syrian invasion of southern
Lebanon or the deployment
of Iraqi forces in Syria.
He also declared that Is-
rael would not consent to
any violation of its peace
treaty with Egypt, large or
small. He predicted that
Egypt would continue the
peace process even after Is-
rael completes its with-
drawal from Sinai next Ap-
ril. He warned, however,
that Israel has taken all
precautionary measures "to
avoid a disaster" if his fore-
cast does not materialize.
The hawkish minister
spoke to a group of Jewish
leaders from North and
South America, Europe and
South Africa. He exhorted
them to extend greater

Palestinians Are Jordan Majority
JEJUJSALEM (JNI) — A
large part of the Palestinian
people are Jordanians. They
constitute 60 percent of the
population of Jordan, ac-
cording to a London Ob-
server study. Many Palesti-
nian Arabs hold Jordanian
citizenship and occupy top
government positions.
In practice as well as law,
Palestinian Arabs are inte-
grated into all walks of Jor-
danian life. In fact, accord-
ing to Al Ahram of Egypt,
Palestinian Arabs control

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Several months after the
League of Nations
entrusted Britain with the
Palestine mandate in July
1922, Britain partitioned
Palestine into two parts, es-
tablishing an Arab emirate
east of the Jordan River
(Transjordan) and leaving
only western Palestine as
the Jewish national home.
Renamed -the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan in 1950,
this state covers 76 percent
of the original, territory of

Coming Up Roses
JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Israeli growers and expor-
ters fulfilled a longtime
dream Oct. 27 with the
opening of a 25-acre Na-
tional Rose Garden during
the fifth World Rose Con-
vention.
Some 400 delegates from
23 countries — including
Poland, Egypt and India —
gathered at the Jerusalem
Hilton for a week of lec-
tures, exhibitions and trips
to observe production of
what has become a $20 mil-
lion export item. This
winter alone, Israeli grow-
ers expect to sell 800 million
blooms, including 225 mil-
lion cut roses, mainly in
Europe.
