"It's easy for a candidate to make promises. It's
tougher to keep them. Southfield 's . . . City
Councilman, John Beras, however, is proving
to be a cut above the norm. Unlike some . . . in
the city Beras is willing to publicly adMit to
problems in this area and he wants to do some-
thing about it. Beras has proved to be the most
innovative member of . . . Council."

Re-Elect John Beras

the director of the Afro-
Asian Institute, the
Histadrut-sponsored office
for providing assistance to
underdeveloped countries.
Dr. Paz, American-
born who earned all his
degrees and a doctorate
in this country, and who
has devoted himself to Is-
raeli pioneering efforts
which included the crea-
tion of Kibutz Kisufim in
the Negev, told of the
services provided by His-
tadrut in the Amal
schools for youth who
would otherwise be un-
trained and who are
raised to a high level of
productivity by the train-
ing assured for them.
He commended Redstone
for his lifetime interest in
such tasks.
At the same time, Dr. Paz
expressed satisfaction with
the efforts achieved through
the Afro-Asian Institute in
assuring friendship for Is-
rael in the Third World. De-
spite the overwhelming
animosities there, he said
that the training provided
for Third World students,
including many diplomats,
in the facilities provided by
Histadrut leave their mark
of friendship for Israel.
He emphasized that His-
tadrut's services are not
only in that direction but
also in the many social serv-
ices, in creating cooperation
with the Arabs, in raising
the standards of Israeli as-
pirations in behalf of all
noteworthy services.
Greetings in behalf of
the Labor Zionist groups
here were extended by
Helen Naimark, Evelyn
Noveck and Morris
Lieberman, who pre-
sented the menora
plaque to the Redstones
and spoke glowingly of
their pioneering Zionist
work here and in Israel.
Louis Milgrom, president
of Detroit Technion Society,
praised Redstone's lifetime
of efforts in behalf of the
Technion.
The Redstones' sons
Daniel and Eliel spoke with
deep affection about their
parents and the family's
constant cooperation in all
their activities, never per-
mitting both Louis and
Ruth's many services to
scores of causes to interfere
with home devotions.
An impressive portion of
the program was the per-
formance by the Festival
Dancers of the Jewish
Community Center, under
the direction of Harriet
Berg.
The opening and clos-
ing prayers were by
Rabbi Leon Fram and Dr.
Charles Benham, direc-
tor of the Detroit Round
Table, who thanked the
honorees for their coop-
eration in the work of the
National Conference of
Christians and Jews.
Mary Freedland led in

not to see them unless they
be very great.
