Elaine D. Block was
elected president of the
Michigan Regional Advi-
sory Board of the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith. Mrs. Block has been a
vice president of the board
for several years.
Charles H. Tobias, im-
mediate past president
Mrs. Block, Peter M. Alt"
David L. Bittker, Martin .a.
Doctoroff, John E. Jacobs,
Stuart M. Lockman, Robert
H. Naftaly, Arthur C.
Schott and Harvey L. Weis-
berg are local members of
ADL's national board of di-
rectors, the national com-
mission. Bertram H. Marx
of Flint is also a member of
the commission.
Elected to Michigan ADL
posts were: Alter, Lockman
and Marx, re-elected vice
presidents; Judge Jessica R.
Cooper, George M. Nyman
and Richard F. Roth, vice
presidents; Jason M. Hor-
ton, treasurer; and Robert J.
Gordon secretary.
Tobias and Mrs. Block
noted a large increase in
complaints to the ADL,
and a similar increase in
requests for consultation
from civic, government
and educational groups
around the state. They
said that the current eco-
nomic crisis in the state,
coupled with the rise of
unemployment and infla-
tion, guaranteed an in-
crease in violence, van-
dalism and discrimina-

tion.
Persons interested in
more information about the
ADL or. wishing to volun-
teer their services should
call Mrs. Block, 962-9686.
