AJC-IEF Women to Hear UJA Leader

Irving Bernstein, execu-
tive vice chairman of the
United Jewish Appeal, will
address the Women's Di-
vision of the Allied Jewish
Campaign - Israel Emer-
gency Fund at a luncheon
meeting 11 a.m. Nov. 6 at
the Bloomfield Hills home
of Linda Klein.
The Special Gifts event is
open to contributors of at
least $3,000 to Campaign
through the Women's Div-
sion.
Bernstein has had a dis-
tinguished career in Jewish
communal service. In his
current position for more
than a decade, he has di-
rected the American Jewish
community's major channel
of funds for humanitarian
assistance to the people of
Israel.

College of New York and
Columbia University,
Bernstein was a teacher and
social worker for many
years before joining the
UJA staff.

tional Conference to be
held in Israel, and won
acceptance for Project
Renewal, the social re-
habilitation program for
Israel's distressed
neighborhoods.

In 1967, Bernstein went
to Israel as part of a four-
member UJA leadership
team to survey the affects of
the Six-Day War on UJA-
supported immigrant ab-
sorption and rehabilitation
programs. He has led study
missions to many countries
and been a member of all
UJA annual overseas study
conferences since 1961.

Bernstein is a member of
the United States Holocaust
Memorial Council and prev-
iously was part of President
Carter's Commission on the
Holocaust. He is an associ-
ate member of the board of
governors of the Jewish
Agency.

pletion of a 22,000 square
foot expansion of its
regional blood services
facilities at 100 Mack Ave.

has a stained glass panel in
its lobby featuring the
emblems of the Red Cross,
the Red Crescent emblem of
Moslem countries and Is-
rael's red Star of David.
