RED CEDARS
The Best of Everything
NEXT MARCH will be
only the second anniversary
since Yahia Mawari took
over the Red Devil Restau-
rant on Greenfield and
Fenkell ... It's been there for
oodles of years ... and a favo-
rite for folks who want to
enjoy informal dining ...
with good Italian food at
reasonable prices.
Red Devil seats 160 ... in a
true family-dining atmos-
phere ... A big winner are
those hot garlic bread sticks
they make there in the
kitchen ... People come from
around the city to nibble on
one or more of Yahia's spe-
cialties ... and many more
times than not it's more.
The menu now is even
larger than before ... from
Eggplant Parmigiana to
seven veal dishes ... 14
kinds of spaghetti or noo-
dle dishes ... five raviolies
five mostacciolies ... five
different steaks ... lamb
chops, barbeque ribs, three
types of chicken, eight sea-
foods ... etc.
And the pizza was
rated in July at the top by
Dougal Harris in
Monthly Detroit ... Hav-
ing a pizza survey around
the town, here was Har-
ris' final summation ...
"Now that it's all over, we
can report that the best
pizza we ate in the city
was the Red Devil's.
Buddy's had the best
Fine Dining In The Elegant
Vineyard's Tradition
regular crust, an cltlie
Blue Mushroom the best
whole-wheat; Loui's
served us the tastiest
salad dressing, Mr. Ed's
the biggest and one of the
best antipastos. And
Niki's is the best new piz-
zeria in years.
"All of these places can
make fine piiza. But after
we finished work on the
color photo accompanying
the story, we ate its sub-
jects. The only one that was
magnificent — even stony
cold — was the pizza from
the Red Devil."
The vegetarian pizza is
unusual and very tasty ...
with melted cheese atop
sliced tomatoes.
It also has a small bar ...
serving cocktails, plus beer
and wine.
Red Devil's popularity
has gotten even stronger
through the years ... as a
very good neighborhood piz-
zeria for informal family
dining.
SILVERMAN'S IS
COMING to Southfield
The very popular eateries in
Westland and Novi ... with
50 types of omelettes ...
hamburgers galore ... and
lots of food at low prices ...
will open between Nov. 15
and Dec. 1. Location will be
the Tower - 14 Bldg. on J.L.
Hudson Dr.
SOMETHING NEW is
happening at a familiar old
place ... Restaurant "doctor"
Hugh Gedrich has been re-
tained to revitalize Rip's,
the suburban landmark res-
taurant for 40 years on
Huron St. (M-59) in
Waterford.
Hugh makes it three
"doctors" in the family ...
Cousin Jerry Gurwin oper-
ates the Auto Body Klinic
and Cousin Sam Solomon is
the Lock Doctor.
Hugh is installing many
of his personal recipes at
Rip's, and fresh fish is fea-
tured along with the baby
spare ribs that have made
the spot famous since 1941
