Probably the largest
Jewish community on the
French Riviera is to be
found in Nice, where almost
30,000 Jews reside. An in-
creasing number of North
African Jews have made
their homes here, as well as
retired Jews from Paris.
(Cannes has about 6,000
Jews.)
In Nice are two delightful
kosher restaurants: the

Taiwan's Jewish commu-
nity is growing; there are 38
Jewish families plus a
number of Jewish tran-
sients who regularly visit
Taiwan. In the Paipei sub-
urb of Peitou a new
synagogue has been built,
replete with a swimming
pool and club rooms. The
leader of the community is
Yaacov Liberman who has
just obtained a license from
the government to build a
Jewish community center
on new premises.

PBS Program
on Gathering
of Survivors

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Thirty-six years after the
end of the Nazi Holocaust in
Europe, more than 5,000 of
the survivors came together
in Israel last June to attend
the world gathering of
Jewish Holocaust sur-
vivors.
On Nov. 2 Public Broad-
casting Service (PBS) will
present "Holocaust — The
Survivors Gather. A Look
Back." The one-hour special
program highlighting this
historical gathering will be
narrated by actor Martin
Balsam. It will be aired in
Detroit at 3 a.m. Nov. 2 on
Channel 56.

According to PBS, high-
lights of the presentation
will include the opening
ceremonies at Yad Vashem,
the passing of the "legacy"
of the Holocaust from the
survivors to their children,
and a speech by Premier
Menahem Begin during the
final ceremonies at the

also small Jewish com-
munities at Hilo and at
Kona on the big island of
Hawaii. Kosher meals are
available at the Kuilima

shore of the island of Oahu.
Probably the oldest
Jewish community in the
Diaspora is to be found in
Tunisia, more particularly
on the island of Djerba off
the Tunisian coast. For 35
generations Jews have lived
here, ever since members of
the tribe of Zebulon arrived
in the time of King Sol-
omon. Today only 1,000
Jews remain. They are
goldsmiths, fishermen and
attendees of the El Griba
Synagogue.

BONN (JTA) — Justice
Minister Jurgen Schmude
said here that spreading
propaganda which denies
that Jews were mass mur-
dered in Nazi concentration
camps should be an indicta-
ble offense.
Schmude was responding
to criticism over the spread
of Nazi propaganda in West
Germany through distribu-
tion of pamphlets and in the
sale of Nazi emblems, in
many cases imported from
abroad. Critics have
charged that there are too
many loopholes in the law
banning such activities.
