Pioneer Women
Changes Name

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Pioneer Women has offi-
cially changed its name to
Pioneer Women; Na'amat,
the Women's Labor Zionist
Organization of America.
The action was taken at the
organization's 27th bien-
nial convention at
Kiamesha Lake, N.Y.
Phyllis Sutker of Skokie,
Ill., was elected president,
succeeding Frieda Leemon
of Farmington Hills.

Gen. Amos Horev, presi-
dent of Technion — Israel
Institute of Technology, will
be guest of honor and
speaker at the 33rd annual
dinner of the Detroit Chap-
ter of the American Techn-
ion Society 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Paul Zuckerman will in-
troduce Gen. Horev.
Maj. Gen. (res) Horev is
the first Israel-born presi-
dent in Technion's history.
He assumed the office in
1973. A week after he took
office, the Yom Kippur War
broke out, and Gen. Horev,
like most of the student
body and many of the fa-
culty, was called into the ac-
tive service for six weeks.
He was special assistant to
the deputy chief of staff.
In addition to his career
in the Israel defense forces,
he was trained as an en-
gineer, receiving his BSc
and MSc degrees in
mechanical engineering at
the Massachusetts Institute

tion as an active member of
the military was chief scien-
tist of the Israeli Defense
Ministry.
Gen. Horev was active
in the Hagana during the
era of illegal immigraiton
in the 1940s. In the War of
Independence in 1948, he
was active in the battle of
Jerusalem and at the
Southern front.
Gen. Horev held a
number of senior staff posi-
tions in the Israel army. He
was responsible for many
significant advances in Is-
rael's strategic capabilities.
As chief of logistics for de-
fense establishment from
1968 until 1972, he strongly
emphasized scientific re-
search and development.

ters.
Dr. Trifon was born in Is-
rael and was educated at the
Hebrew University and at
London University. He is
associate professor of
economics and manage-
ment at the Technion and
formerly was dean of its fa-
culty of industrial engineer-
ing and management and
head of the economics de-
partment.
Dr. Trifon has served
as a visiting professor at
universities in Canada,
the United States, Au-
stralia and Japan. Over
the years he has been a
consultant on industrial
development to United
Nation agencies in Thai-
land, and India and on
economic matters to Is-
rael government minis-
tries and major Israeli
firms.
His publications have
dealt with the subjects of
industrial organizations,
bargaining theory, health
and education, planning
and related subjects. Cur-
rently, Dr. Trifon is spend-
ing a sabbatical year at the
University of Michigan as a
visiting scholar for research
in the fields of labor and fi-
nance.
