THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Marilyn Michaels, singer,
impressionist and com-
edienne, and Sergei Edel-
man, young Russian-
Jewish concert pianist, will
headline the program of the
Zionist Organization of De-
troit's annual Balfour
Celebration 7:30 p.m. Oct.
25 at Ford Auditorium.
The annual event marks
the anniversary date of the
Balfour Declaration issued
by Britain in 1917 as a
pledge "to facilitate the es-
tablishment in Palestine of
a national home for the
Jewish people."
Irving Laker, president,
announced that proceeds
from the program will pro-
vide scholarships for disad-
vantaged Israeli children to
study at the Zionist Organi-
zation of America's educa-
tional campus in Kfar
Silver, Israel, and sustain
the organization's educa-
tional and public relations
programs locally and na-
tionally.

Miss Michaels is best
remembered for her por-
trayal of Fanny Brice in
the national company of
"Funny Girl" and her-fea-
tured role in TV's
"Kopykats." Her impres-
sions of Barbra
Streisand, Liza Minnelli,
Dinah Shore are recog-
nized worldwide.
Edelman is a native of

Lvov in the Ukraine, where
he made his debut at age 10
with the local symphony or-
chestra. Since then he had
appeared with leading or-
chestras in the Soviet Un-

ion, and upon arrival in this
country, has won the Young
Concert Artists Interna-
tional Auditions in 1979
and was named recipient of
the first Baldwin Young
