That Reagan and Haig
are so desperate as to call
on Nixon for help in
isolating Israel and the
American Jewish com-
munity in the AWACS
deal is a subject in itself.
It promises no good for
the recovery of dignity
and integrity in the White
House and its relations
with the Congress and
the American voters. But
we were talking about
the Nixon role in Ameri-
can politics.
Nixon is not only a bar-
nyard anti-Semite: his
career was built on appeals
to other degenerate forces in
the spiritual underworld of
American politics as well.
He was elected to the House
of Representatives during
the McCarthy era by a cam-
paign of lies against Jerry
Voorhees, one of the finest
Christian laymen ever to
serve in the lower house of
Congress. Voorhees was a
YMCA leader, a leader in
the Cooperative League of
America, a chainpion of the
rights of all citizens regard-
less of race. Nixon blac-
kened him as "soft on Com-
munism," a lying charge ac-
cepted by a number of voters
who should have known
better.
Nixon then repeated his
shameful performance in a
campaign of lies against
Helen Gahagan Douglas.•
With these two starts he
went on eventually to the
top post, finally to be ex-
posed as an unprincipled
betrayer of the public trust.
Nixon's misuse of his office
precipated the most
dangerous crisis in the his-
tory of the republic since
secession.
That Nixon should be a
barnyard anti-Semite — as
well as a liar and a betrayer
— is not surprising to those
who watched his career crit-
ically.
But what are Reagan
and Haig going dredging
the bottom of the barrel
to isolate "the Jewish
vote"?!

Are we "allies" of our
friends or of our
enemies? The Saudis
have never hesitated to
attack Israel without
warning. They have ban-
krolled PLO terrorists.
They have levied political
and economic attacks on
Egypt for making peace
with Israel. At least they
have never lied to us
about their intent, which
is more than can be said
of the appeasement
crowd in our own Penta-

leaders.
The first point in a public
discussion, however, is the
fact that the proposed sale
has nothing whatever to do
with the defense or security
of America. A recent study
has shown that a large sec-
tor of our own army in
Europe cannot even man-
age the sophisticated
weaponry now available to
NATO. How much less
would be Saudis, of whom
there are far fewer compe-
tents than Iran could once
boast, capable of handling
the more advanced
weaponry now sought for
them!
The truth is that the
Saudi arms deal is a public
works project for American
munitions firms, backed by
the oil cartels, mast of whom
are "American" only in in-

The second point is that
