Dr. Sheldon Mintz, his wife, Sybil, right, and
daughter, Carla, were in Israel this summer while Dr.
Mintz served as a guest consultant at the School of
Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Mintz,
whose specialty is oral and maxillofacial surgery, also
is affiliated with Ichilov and Rambam Hospitals. His
daughter, Carla, attended the Overseas Students
Program at TAU. Mrs. Mintz is an artist whose works
are displayed at various Detroit area institutions, in-
cluding Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel Moses.

2 qts. water
2 tsp salt
1 onion, diced
8 tomatoes, skinned, and
diced
1 cup tomato sauce
1 medium head cabbage,
shredded
juice 2 lemons
3 tbsps. brown sugar
In a large heavy pot, bring
bones, water and salt to a boll.
Skim off the top. Add remain-
ing ingredients, except lemon
Juice and sugar. Simmer over a
low heat for 2 hours. Add
lemon juice and sugar. Cook 1
more hour over a low heat. Ad-
just seasoning if necessary.
Keep pot covered. Good pre-
pared ahead and either frozen
and reheated or Just prepared
a day ahead and reheated.
