National Kashrut Expert. Tours Detroit Area Kosher Food Producers
.
chief kashrut expert of the
Union . of Orthodox Jewish
Congregations of America
as well as the Rabbinical
Council of America, was in
Detroit last week to tour the
local companies that man-
ufacture kosher food pro-
ducts under supervision of
the Metropolitan Kashruth
Council, principally Wes-
ley's Quaker Maid Ice
Cream Co. of Detroit.
Wesley's has been under
the Kashruth Council's
rabbinical supervision since
1912, except for a brief
period, during which it was
under supervision of the
UOJCA, also through the
agency of Rabbi Jack
Goldman who was then the
OU representative for this
region. Rabbi Goldman is
the administrator of the
Kashruth Council.
At Wesley's, the council
had not approved all of the
ice cream products, but only
those that bear the council's
seal of kashrut, the letter
"K" in a shield. Wesley's
products without the kas-
hrut emblem are not
kosher.
