DINNER UM A URE
. WHERE ONCE disco
frenzy lurked with abandon
is now the quiet soft ele-
gance of Standard Club
North on Northwestern
Hwy. . . . The former Os-
car's has been replaced with
class . . . private intimacy
amid warm tones . . . and
soft ballads and beautiful
big bands' music instead of
the blaring disco wildness.
The members of this pri-
vate club have something to
be proud of . . . a place to
dine or party or dance with
an elegant touch of delight
. . plus a team of
employees that rank with
the best . . . Bud Sherbow,
general manager; Steve
Romanik, head chef; and
excellent waiters like Jack
Williams, so courteous, effi-
cient and personable.
Standard Club North is
progressing rapidly . .
with exciting plans for the
future.
EVER HAVE A corned
beef and cream cheese
sandwich? . . Can't think
of too many that have .
Yet Jeff Fidler, for whom
"Jeff's Joy" was named after
at Lenny's Deli on Orchard
Lake Rd. between 13 and 14
Mile, says he gets a lot of
calls for the seemingly
strange triple decker com-
bination . . . They also
have a Brown's Heartburn
(knockwurst, sauerkraut
and Swiss cheese, grilled)
named after Neil Brown of
Brown's Drugs on Orchard
Lake Rd.
Football fans Jeff and
Andy Zervas at Lenny's are
so revved up on the Michi-
gan, Michigan State and
Detroit Lions games that
they're giving a 20 percent
discount on all Saturday
and Sunday carry outs so
people can root with brown
bag enthusiasm.
THE RON CODEN
SHOW is at J. Ross
Browne's Whaling Station
on Telegraph in W. Bloom-
field through Oct. 31.
WE ARE NOW OPEN
7 DAYS A WEEK
were cold . . and the same
pieces that came with the
runny eggs . . . Easy to tell
. . . they had soggy egg all
over them . . Come to
think of it, they were the
original ones we sent back
. . white toast , not rye.

"STRINGS" — STROLLING VIOLINS ON SAT. EVE
MEL BALL AND
COLOURS are packing
them in at John Laffrey's
Annex next door to his Vin-
eyards And Steak Bar . . .
The group has piano, bass,
drums and Mel in front on
vibes . . . plus two pretty
lassies who belt out songs
with gusto.
It's really the Mel Ball
and Colours Show as the
guys and gals sing "New
York, New York," "I Will
Survive," "Mr. Sandman,"
"Sonny," "Celebration," etc.
The Annex action is so
alive that even while people
were fighting the rain tor-
rents you'd never know
lights were out and base-
ments flooded all around
. There was too much
fun going on.
SAM JARRUS seems to
be turning things around at
the Sussex House on 12 Mile
east of Evergreen . . . The
food has gotten much better
. . . the service, too . . .
and his waitresses have
even been trained to make
those delicious flaming cof-
fee drinks with liqueur and
whipped cream.

SAGA OF A RECENT
morning and among the
worst breakfasts we have
had . . . at Maple House on
Southfield and 10 Mile .
Two scrambled eggs ordered
loose with rye toast and cof-
fee at 8:50 a.m. . . . Ten
minutes later came the eggs
. . . not even medium, but
hard . . . Back they went
. . Ten more minutes and
the waitress returned with
the eggs running like those
waters during the recent
flood . . . 15 minutes more
and back they came . .
hard again.
Had to leave so just drank
the coffee . . . Couldn't
even eat the toast . They
