Prof. Bull of Drew Uni- versity has been directing the excavations at Caesarea on the shore of the Mediter- ranean Sea for the past 10 years. In the past 10 years Prof. Bull has extended the in- vestigation of the site both north and south of the Crusader Fortress to in- clude the area of the com- mercial harbor, the area of the municipal buildings of the ancient city and the great promenade which ex- tended from the Roman Forum to the theater. The lecture is the first in the Calendar of the An- tiquaries, a group at the Detroit Institute of Arts interested in ancient art, archeology and in travel to ancient sites. The lec- ture is free to members of Antiquaries, but there is a charge to the public. Wayne State University Prof. James C. Berg was present at the dig in 1974 as a volunteer for the season of excavations when one of the important pieces of sculpture was discovered in the square in which he was digging. Prof. Norina Goldman, also of WSU, was a volunteer for the 1980 season during which time she was apprenticed to the lamp expert to continue her study of ancient Roman lamps. Dr. B. Sherbin Dr. Benjamin Norman Sherbin, an osteopathic physician, died Sept. 28 at age 46. A native Detroiter, Dr. Sherbin was graduated from the Des Moines Col- lege of Osteopathy. He was a member of the Macomb County Osteopathy Asso- ciation. Dr. Sherbin was an assis- tant clinical professor at Michigan State Univer- sity's college of osteopathic medicine. He was a member of Motor City Lodge of Bnai Brith, Temple Israel and the the Antique Car Club of America. He leaves his wife, Can- dice; two sons, Aaron and Daniel; three daughters, Elizabeth, Lara and Jodi; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Anna) Sherbin; two brothers, Jerry and Dr. Herbert; and a sister, Mrs. Norman (Suzanne) Modlin of Montreal. Gurvis, former owner of Gurvis Drugs located on Dexter and Burlingame in the 1930s, died Sept. 21 at age 75. A resident of Pasadena, Calif., at the time of his death, Mr. Gurvis was a pharmacist for many years. While in Detroit he was a member of Mosaic Lodge of the Masons. In California, he also was affiliated with the Masons. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Mrs. Aaron (Dolores) Rabin of North Hollywood, Calif., and Marlene Stephens of North Hollywood; a brother, Harry of Southfield; two sis- ters, Sophie Feldman of Huntington Woods and Ida Miller of North Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
