Anecdotal History of Windsor
Jewry Published This Week

"Why Windsor? An Anec-
dotal History of the Jews of
Windsor and Essex County"
was just published this
week by, Black Moss Press.
It includes many interest-
ing bits of information, in-
cluding:
The first comic book in
North America was created
by a Windsor Jew.
Another Windsor Jew
won a silver medal at Hit-
ler's 1936 "Aryan" Olympic
showcase, and his team-
mates flatly refute the lie
that the Olympic team gave
Hitler the Nazi salute.
The first Jew in the
Canadian senate and the
first Jew in the federal
cabinet are both from
Windsor. '
Why Windsor? is the
question answered by Her-
bert Gray, Senator David
Croll and others in this
anecdotal look at one of

OTTAWA (JTA) — Jack
Austin, a member of the
Canadian senate, was
named last week by Prime
Minister Pierre Elliott

cabinet members.
Austin, 49, was named
Minister of State with spe-
cial responsibility for west-
ern Canada. The other
Jewish Cabinet members
are Herbert Gray, of
Windsor, for Industry,
Trade and Commerce; and
Bob Kaplan, Solicitor Gen-
