1930s when the Kupat
Holim Leumit was
founded, medical serv-
ices were at a minimum.
Living conditions were
harsh. The sick fund
found- volunteer physi-
cians who were willing to
help the pioneers.
From 35 founding mem-
bers in 1934, the national
sick fund grew in to an
organization of more than
350,000 members, with
more than 2,000 medical
planners. One out of every
10 Israelis belongs to the
sick fund.
From a one-room dispen-
sary in Tel Aviv, in 1935, it
now has---120 functioning
clinicsaind dispensaries.
These Kelinics are well-
equipped with modern
facilities, medical equip-
ment and instruments.
Today, the Kupat Holim
performs 325,000 tests and
31,000 x-rays yearly.
