and recipient of the 1981
Maimonides Award will be
Dr. Maurice Tatelman, "in
recognition of his outstand-
ing contributions to the
cause of humanitarianism."
Dr. Hershel Sandberg,
chairman of the department
of endocrinology at Sinai
and chairman of the Israel
Bonds Medical Physicians
Division.
Dr. Tatelman has been
chairman of the department
of radiology at Sinai Hospi-
tal of Detroit since July
1968. Prior to coming to
Sinai Hospital, he was the
head of the radiology de-
partments at Detroit
Memorial Hospital and De-
troit Receiving Hospital
and acting chairman of the
department of radiology at
Wayne State University.

He has served on the
faculty of Wayne State
University School of
Medicine since 1951,
achieving the academic
rank of full professor-in
1961, which title he cur-
rently holds. Dr. Tatel-
Man served as chairman
of the department of
radiology at Wayne State
University's School of
Medicine from 1965 to
1969.

The honoree earned BA
and MD degrees at the Uni-
versity of Nebraska. He
interned at Michael Reese
Hospital, Chicago for one
year (1942-1943), then
entered the military service
During World War II, serv-
ing as a flight surgeon with
the rank of captain in the
U.S. Air Force from 1943 to
1946.
He then resumed his med-
ical education, serving as a
resident in radiology at De-
troit Receiving Hospital
(1946-1949). He was cer-
tified in radiology by the
American Board of Radiol-
ogy in 1949.
Dr. Tatelman has been
elected to membership
in the Phi Beta Kappa,
Alpha Omega Alpha and
Sigma Xi • honorary
societies. He has also been
elected to fellowship in the
American College of
Radiology and senior mem-
bership in the American
Society of Neuroradiology.

He is the author of
numerous scientific pub-
lications and has pre-
sented scientific papers
at many regional, na-
tional and international
meetings. He has pre-
sented two scientific ex-
hibits at national meet-
ings, one of which won
the Summa Cum Laude
Award at the Radiologi-
cal Society of North
America annual meeting
in 1957.

Dr. Tatelman specializes
in the field of neuroradiol-

ogy; having received special

post-graduate training in
this field at the Hospital de
la Salpetriere in Paris,
France. He has been a con-
sultant in radiology at De-
troit General Hospital, Vet-
erans Administration Hos-

served as president of the
faculty senate at Wayne

Medicine, president of the
Detroit General Hospital

Michigan Radiological
Society.
He has been a member of
many professional, univer-
sity, hospital and civic
committees and-currently is
a member of many commit-
tees at Sinai Hospital. Hd is
a member of 12 national
professional societies.
Dr. Tatelman is a former
commodore of the Great
Lakes Yacht Club.
