TEL AVIV — Rivka Was Leading Ford Chemist muralist whose work has Guber, educator, writer and social worker, died Sept. 10 at age 79. Known as the "Mother of the Sons" after her two sons fell in the war of Israel's lib- eration, Mrs. Guber com- mitted suicide on the third anniversary of the death of her husband, Mordecai. Born in Russia, Mrs. Guber came with her hus- band to pre-state Israel in 1925. They were the found- ers of Kfar Warburg. In World War II, Mrs. Guber volunteered for the Palestinian units of the British army. Answering the call of David Ben-Gurion to settle Mark Walker Mark G. Walker, a member of many educa- tional associations, died Sept. 16 at age 34. Born in Pontiac, Mr. Walker was a member of the Lansing Association of School Administrators, the Michigan Education Asso- ciation and the National Education Association. He was graduated in 1972 from Michigan State Uni- versity with a bachelor's degree and received a mas- ter's degree from MSU in 1974. He was a member of the Lansing Elks and Cong. Shaarey Zedek in Lansing. He leaves his wife, Judy; two sons, Brian and Charles; a daughter, Laura; his mother, Mrs. Gerald (Cipa) Walker; two brothers, Stanton and Robert of Boulder, Colo.; and a sister, Mrs. Alan ( Nancy) Raznick of San Francisco, Calif. r RIVKA GUBER among the new olim, the Gubers donated their Kfar Warburg property and hold- ings to the Israel Defense Forces Fund and moved to Nehora, where Mr. Guber became the head of the newly established Lachish Regional Council. In 1967, they moved to Kfar Ahim, named after their sons. They both entered the home for the aged in Ramat Aviv in 1971. With her husband, Mrs. Guber built schools, lib- raries, communal centers. She was a school principal, teacher, librarian and social worker. In May 1961, she was named Israel's "Mother of the Year." A year later, she won the Hayim Greenberg prize for her first book, "The Signal Fires of Lachish." In 1976, she received the Israel Prize for her work in the ab- sorption of olim. Born in New York, Dr. Weinstock was educated at Brooklyn College, Colum- bia University and the Uni- versity of Chicago, where he carried out research under the direction of Nobel Laureate Harold C. Urey. He received a PhD degree in chemistry from the Univer- sity of Chicago in 1948 and an honorary MA degree from the University of Ox- ford in England in 1958. His research at Columbia became part of the Manhat- tan Project, started in 1942 by the U.S. War Depart- ment to produce the fitst atomic bomb. For 13 years he was a senior scientist at the Ar- gonne National Labora- tory. Since 1960 he has been employed by Ford Motor Co. He has held offices in the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society, of which he was the counselor of the division of physical chemistry. He was a delegate to the Second In- ternational Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva in 1958. Dr. Weinstock has served on various advisory boards, in- Patricia Dillick Patricia L. Dillick, media relations coordinator at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, died Sept. 14 at age 27. Born in Providence, R.I., Miss Dillick was graduated from Birmingham Groves High School and received a BA degree from the Univer- sity of Michigan in 1977. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Soror- ity and Women in Com- munications, Inc. She leaves her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Sidney (Filomena) Dillick; a brother, Steven; a sister, Mrs. Fleet (Susan) Davies of Upper Montclair, N.J.; and a grandmother, Mrs. Alex (Annie) Dillick of Toronto, Ont. Mary Young Mary D. Young, a member of Cong. Beth Ab- raham Hillel Moses Sister- hood, of which her sister Sophia Feldman is the past president, died Sept. 15 at age 67. Born in Detroit, Mrs. Young also was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Group of City of Hope. Besides her sister, Mrs. Young leaves her husband, Joseph; a son, Alan of San Francisco, Calif.; a daugh- ter, Sandra; and a brother, Irving Grushky. Born in Toronto, Mr. Beerbohm was educated at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (now Center for Creative Studies) betwen 1928 and 1932. His work has been dis- played at the Detroit Insti- tute of Arts, Sinai Hospital of Detroit, Rochester High School, Detroit Public Li- brary, Michigan State Uni- versity and in post offices in Iowa and Michigan. in Southfield commis- sioned Mr. Beerbohm to create a mural chronicl- ing the history of man and electricity.
