Irwin
president of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation, will receive
the Fred M. Butzel Memo-
rial Award at Federation's
55th annual meeting Wed-
nesday. The dinner meeting
at the Jewish Community
Center begins with a recep-
tion at 6 p.m.
The Butzel Award is the
Detroit Jelkish commu-
nity's highest service honor.
A total of 32 individuals
have been recipients of the
award during its 30-year
history.
Green was chairman of
the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign in 1965 and 1966, and
president of the United
Jewish Charities, Federa-
tion's predecessor and
senior agency, from 1970 to
1972.
As a Federation leader,
Green has served on its
executive committee, fi-
nance committee and
budgeting and planning
livisions. He was a direc-
tor of the Jewish Com-
munity Center and pro-
vided leadership in the
capital fund-raising
campaign for the main

Green and his wife Be-
thea made possible the es-
tablishment of a community
center in the village of
Shlomi, on the northern
border of Israel. In addition,
they have financed the con-
struction of three pre-
kindergartens in Kiryat
Shmona, Israel, in the
names of their children
Margo, Richard and Don.

troit Service Group of
Federation.
Green's other communal
interests include the
Holocaust Memorial Center
of Detroit, the Detroit chap-
ter of the American Tec,hn-
ion Society, the Israel
American Chamber of
Commerce, American
Friends of the Israel
Museum and•the Detroit In-
stitute of Arts. He chaired
the Detroit-Israel Trade
Fair in 1973 and has been
instrumental in introduc-
ing many Israel products
into the U.S. market.
His long-standing con-
cern for the welfare of refu-
gees led to Green's involve-
ment in the resettlement of
Soviet Jews in Detroit, both
through Federation and
with other agencies.
A past member of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek's board of -
trustees, he served as
trustees,
chairman of the
synagogue's Presidential
Toast to Israel in 1972 on
behalf of Israel Bonds. The
late Yigal Allon, former de-
puty prime minister of Is-
rael, presented him with the
Sword of Hagana Award
from Israel Bonds at that
time. He has been chairman
or co-chairman of other
Shaarey Zedek dinners
folowing the receipt of this
honor, and he has been a
member of the Prime Minis-
ter's Club since its inception
in 1974.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvern
Wilner of Southfield an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Cara
Frances, to Mark Geoffrey
Loomus, son of Dr. and Mrs.
Gerald Loomus of South-
field.
Miss Wilner is a senior at
Wayne State University,
where she is majoring in
Near Eastern studies. Her
fiance was graduated from
WSU and attends its medi-
cal school.

Potato Casserole

By NORMA BARACH

1 box or package instant
potatoes (4 portion size)
1 chopped onion
small can chopped mush-
rooms, drained
1 egg
1 tbsp. butter
4 oz. whipped cream cheese
salt and pepper to taste
paprika
Prepare instant potatoes
according to packet direc-
tions. Mix all ingredients to-
gether including potatoes.
Sprinkle paprika on top. Bake
In a greased casserole (2
quart) at 400 degrees for 30
minutes. (Serves 4)
