That portion of North-
western and 12 Mile Rd. has
gone western now that Hic-
kory's has arrived . . . And
a covered wagon may soon
be seen parked outside
every day.
Hickory's prices are
structured somewhat in the
western theme of things
. that of having folks
come back for seconds . . .
The food and service are
also bent on bringing people
back for return visits.
If you want to see how the
Northwestern locale decor
will eventually be, Hic-
kory's in Fairlane has much
of the finished look.
NO TRUTH TO the
rumor that Golden Mush-
room is leaving Hamilton
Place on Southfield . . and
according to Mushroom
owner Reid Ashton, there's
even bigger and better
things ahead there.
Golden Mushroom will
cater about 1,000 people for.
the Diabetes Association

land's J. L. Hudson closing
early on the first and fourth
floors . . to show off its
new look.
STRANGE THAT SO
fine a chef as Ted Katopodis
has been "let go" at Troy

and so far that's all . . is
that he allegedly catered too
much to the. JeWish trade

Troy Hilton, knows that Ted
is gone? . . . Servico may
soon take over operation of
the Sheraton-Southfield on
W. Nine Mile . . . Ted was
51/2 years with Sammy
Lieberman at Raleigh

THERE'S A NEW look

at Applegate Square on

Northwestern at Inkster
. . . and it has nothing to do
with the stores or center.
The shop owners are
mighty happy, though . . .
and with good reason .
They finally have a restau-
rant that is looking out for
them as well as people out-
side the square
Ala Cart Cafe changed
hands about seven weeks
ago . . with new owners
Curtis George and fiancee
Donna Fravala putting a
very big emphasis on clean-
liness, good food, better
prices and imaginative
thinking in running a res-
taurant.
No more absentee
ownership . . . and it's a
good dining spot now . .
not a cute little tea room,
so to speak.. . . The
menus go from omelettes
to salads to sandwiches.
. . . to homemade soups
to salad bar . . . to 14
dinner entrees that in-
clude the likes of Veal
Oscar, Scampi, Veal Sici-
lian, Chateaubriand,
Greek Lamb Chops, etc.
. . . with coming items to
include Beef Wellington
and other gourmet dis-
hes.

Curtis and Donna are in-
novative thinkers insofar as
dining is concerned . .
They're already working on
a new menu . . . with even
more gourmet foods . . .
better price range . . . and
soon a Sunday brunch.
The Applegate shopkeep-

Curtis comes from a res-
taurant family . . . work-

ing in the business since a
child . . . He and Donna
owned a dining operation
together.
Fashion shows are now
held Thursday, Friday and
Saturday at noon strictly by
the owners of Applegate
Square shops.
Seating at Ala Carte is
100, with umbrella-like
shades over lights and large
salad bar . . It is so much
cleaner than before . .
Kitchen is spotless . . din-
ing area carpeting is clean
as are the walls.
Fresh cut flowers are
now on every table soon
to be draped with yellow
tablecloths being made
by Curtis' mother, Christ-
ine George . . . to go with
the new deep green nap-
kins.
Ala Cart Cafe, with its
intimate setting, wide-open
look and neatly painted ceil-
ing, has a small but
pleasant-looking cocktail
bar from which spirits and
wines are served there and
to tables.
