City of Hope Official to Speak at Detroit Chapter Dinner

Dr. Sanford M. Shapero,
associate- director of the
City of Hope National Med-
ical Center, will be the
guest speaker at the annual
fund-raising dinner of the
Greater Detroit Chapter of
the free, nonsectarian med-
ical and research center
Sunday at the Renaissance
Center..
Andrew R. Miller is chap-
ter president.
Dr. Shapero is a geron-
tologist, rabbi, consultant,
business executive, author
and public speaker.

Dr. Shapero came to
the City of Hope from the
Institute for Creative De-
velopment, a national
gerontology training cen-
ter which he founded and
served as director, at the
University of Georgia. He
also served as president,
World Gerontology Sys-
tems, Inc., and vice
president, National In-
terfaith Coalition on Ag-
ing.

NEW YORK — A new
program run by the Organ-
ization for Rehabilitation
through Training (ORT)
technical assistance de-
partment has upgraded the
skills of Burma Port Corp.
workers in truck
mechanics, marine-
engineering mechanics,
metal construction and
welding.
The project came about as
the result of a survey con-
ducted by ORT for the
Burma Port Authority and
was funded by a loan from
the International Develop-
ment Association.
The four Burmese in-
structors who were trained
in the program will form a
training cadre for the fu
ture. Recommendations
made by ORT for the future
include counterpart re-
fresher courses as well as
courses in workshop man-
agement, storekeeping,
maintenance, electricity
and port management.
