Selihot Services Scheduled Saturday

Selihot, the penitential
prayers recited in advance
of the High Holidays, will be
heard in congregations
throughout the area at serv-
ices at or about midnight
Saturday.
Synagogues and temples
who have made their
Selihot service schedules
available are:

ADAT SHALOM SYN-
AGOGUE: Selihot obser-

vance will begin at 9 p.m.
with a coffee and cake re-
ception, followed at 10 by an
illustrated talk by Rabbi
Efry Spectre on his trips to
Jewish communities in
Europe. United Synagogue
Youth members will report
on their summer trips to Is-
rael.
At 11, Selihot services
will be held in the main
sanctuary, conducted by
Rabbi Spectre and Cantor
Larry Vieder, who will be
assisted by the synagogue
choir, under the direction of
Dr. Maurice Lax.

MOSES: Selihot services

will be held 11:45 p.m.
Saturday. Rabbi A. Irving
Schnipper will officiate
with Cantor Shabtai Ac-

ception and Havdala service

The cultural commission
will present a special
Selihot program, "Selihot:
A Return to Shalom," 9:15
p.m. Saturday. The audio-
visual program will be fol-
lowed at 10:30 p.m. by serv-
ices, conducted by Rabbi
. Stanley M. Rosenbaum and
Cantor Louis Klein with the
assistance of the men's
choir, under the direction of
Daniel Braude. Ronna
Rosenbaum is chairman of
the cultural commission.
Mr. and Mrs. David Schey
are chairmen for the eve-
ning.
Miriam Ciesla will pro-
vide music and the program
will be narrated by Mrs.
Rosenbaum, Rena Tobes,
Mr. and Mrs. Schey,
Richard Sweet and David
Berg.

TEMPLE ISRAEL:

Selihot services will be held
11 p.m. Saturday. At 10:30
p.m. a social hour will be
sponsored by the congrega-

tion's Couples Club. The
service will open with a
candlelighting procession
through the santuary, in
which members of the tem-
ple youth group will par-
ticipate.
Rabbis M. Robert Syme,
Harold S. Loss and Leon
Fram and the officers of the
temple will conduct the
services. Cantor Harold Or-
bach and the temple choir
will render the liturgical
portion. David Wilson will
provide organ accompani-
ment.

YOUNG ISRAEL OF
OAK-WOODS: A pre-

service coffee hour will be
held at 11:30 p.m. Saturday
in the Berris Meeting Room.
Rabbi James I. Gordon will
deliver a sermon at 12:40
p.m. and services will begin

at 1 a.m. Sunday. Daily
services will be held at 6:30
a.m. and on Erev Rosh
Hashana at 6 a.m.
