In July, Mondale spoke at
the Hebrew University in
Jerusalem, where he slam-
med the Reagan Adminis-
tration's decision to delay
the delivery of F-16 fighters
to Israel and the proposed
sale of AWACS to Saudi
Arabia. Mondale was a pro-
tege of the late Hubert
Humphrey.
Bluestone, the honoree,
who was born in Brooklyn,
N.Y., and was graduated

ADMINISTRATOR WANTED

IRVING BLUESTONE

City College of New York.
He did post-graduate work
at the University of Bern in
Switzerland.
His early introduction
to trade unionism took
place during his college
years when he assisted in
picket duty for the Res-
taurant Workers Union.
His serious union activi-
ties began when he was
employed by General
Motors Hyatt Bearing
Division, joined
UAW-GM Local 511, be-
came chairman of the
local union's bargaining,
education and political
action committees and
was editor of its news-
paper. -
The late Walter Reuther
invited Bluestone to join his
staff in 1947 and he rose to
the vice presidency of the
. From 1970
UAW in 1972.
until his retirement in
1980, he also servedas di-
rector of the UAW's General
Motors Department, largest
in the union with more than
480,000 of UAW's 1,500,000
members.
Since his retirement from
his post with the UAW,
Bluestone has continued
many of his "outside" activi-
ties serving on many na-
tional, international, state
and local boards and is cur-
rently professor of labor
studies at Wayne State
University.
