former.
In 1975, she became a
regular member of NBC's
"Saturday Night Live," at
the time Lorne Michaels as-
sembled the original cast -
and crew. SubSequently,
she won an Emmy. A con-
tinuing stream of offers for
stage and film roles fol-
lowed.
Radner rapidly became
one of the hottest com-
ediennes on the entertain-
ment scene, transcending
the scope of the tube in 1979
with the Broadway produc-
tion, a soloextravaganza of
"Gilda Radnel' — Live from
New York," that opened at
the Winter Garden Theater-
and won her critical acclaim
as actress, singer, dancer
and satirist.
Mike Nichols filmed the
show "in performance" to
create the movie, "Gilda
Live." The picture was pro-
duced by Michaels, written
by him and Radner, plus the
help of seven other writers.
PAUL MAZURSKY,
one of today's most creative
film makers, serves as pro-
ducer, director-and is co-
author of "Tempest," unre-
lated to the classical play by
Shakespeare. John Cassa-
vetes, Gena Rowlands,
Susan Sarandon, Vittorio
Gassman and Raul Julia
portray the leads.
Mazursky, also an alum-
nus of the improvisational
theater, specifically "The
Second City" revue, made
his directorial debut on the
screen in 1969 with "Bob &
Carol & Ted & Alice."
RICHARD BENJA-
MIN will direct "My Favo-
rite Years," with Peter
O'Toole, Jessica Harper and
screen newcomer Mark
Linn-Baker from Joseph
Papp's New York Shakes-
peare Festival. It is a nos-
talgic comedy by Norman
Steinberg with Michael
Gruskoff producing and Mel
Brooks as executive.
ZALMAN KING is co-
author and executive pro-
ducer of "Endangered Spe-
cies," a contemporary mys-
tery drama to start at MGM
this month under Alan
Rudolph's direction, with
Robert Urich (of TV's
"Vegas") portraying the
lead.
