According to Avraham Pomerantz, aca- demic secretary, who is in charge of the programs, there was a considerable in- crease in participation this year. The first of the groups were 150 teachers from Judea and Samaria who attended a four-day semi- nar specially organized for them by the Institute for In-Service Studies of the Is- rael Ministry of Education. They were followed by col- lege students from through- out the United States who came for a summer semes- ter of intensive studies. Teachers from Jewish schools in Canada partici- pated in a program spon- sored jointly by Bar-Ilan and the Canadian Zionist Federation. from Teachers England studied methods of teaching Jewish studies in Jewish schools in the Diaspora. A group of Alliance teachers from France had a three-week program of Jewish studies. Some 110 Bnei Akiva members from all over the world, espe- cially the U.S., Canada, France, England and South America, studied Hebrew, Jewish studies and Land- of-Israel studies at Bar-Ilan for a month before joining religious kibutzim for a year of hakshara. • • HENRY P.
