Some 50 families have
been assisted since the be-
ginning of the program, and
retarded clients range in
age from infancy to the late
60s.
Besides the emotional
support .extended by the
JARC, services include vis-
its to non-JARC group
homes for the retarded and
mentally ill who cannot
wait for placement in a
Haverim Home. Staff also
visit day programs and
work with volunteers to
provide transportation and
other services. Where fam-
ily members cannot arrange
to meet with a counselor at
the JARC office,they are vi-
sited at home.
Ms. Kotler, who has a de-
gree in social work from
Michigan State University,
was case manager of several
mentally retarded adults
through the Life Consulta-
tion Center, an agency of
the Macomb County Mental
Health Department.

Homes in which 24 retarded
persons reside. The showing
of the Academy Award-
winning documentary will
take place at 7:45 p.m. at
Northland Theater.
But what of the retarded
citizens and their families
who still wait? The JARC
estimates that more than
100 persons hope to be
placed in its group homes
- and many more not on a
waiting list are in need.
To those persons —
among the more than 2,000
Jewish families in the De-
troit area with a retarded
child or relative — the
JARC extends the special
services of its family assis-
tance project.
Former Detroiters Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry (Fritzie)
Kohn of West Palm Beach,
Fla., were honored last
month at a champagne
brunch given by their chil-
dren at the Potomac Club on
the occasion of their 50th
wedding anniversary.
Their children, are Mr.
and Mrs. Alan (Phyllis)
Kohn. The senior Kohns
have three grandchildren.

his honor, the faster we
