Inn. The occasion? The
royal marriage of Prince
Charles and Lady Diana. In
all, 72 people woke before
the sun to watch the wed-
ding on a big screen color
television at the hotel.
"The Michigan Inn's
Royal Tea Party included
tea, crumpets and Scotch
eggs (hard boiled eggs
wrapped in sausage, then
rolled in bread crumbs and
deep fried) . . . After 7 a.m.,
many guests toasted the
royal couple with cham-
pagne."

Handwerker, owners of
Nathan's Famous in New
York, recently put on a 65th
anniversary party for mar-
ried couples celebrating
their 65th anniversary .. .
with their Times Square
•unit the site for the couples
and their families . . . Back
in 1916, Nathan and Ida
opened a frankfurter stand
in the Coney Island sector of
Brooklyn . . . It has today
grown to 50 units around
the nation.
JOHNNY - GUAR-
NIERI, an autumn regular
at Chuck Muer's Top of the
Pontch for the past three
years, returns for a six-
week stand at the skyline
night spot Sept. 8.
Guarnieri will play for
dining and dancing Tues-
days through Saturdays be-
ginning at 7 p.m. . . . Join-
ing him will be Jerry
McKenzie on drums and
Danny Jordan on bass.
Guarnieri got his big
break when he joined the
Benny Goodman Orchestra
. . . He later played with the
Jimmy Dorsey band and
pioneered jazz on
harpsichord with Arte
Shaw's Grammercy Five .. .
He's composed more than
3,500 songs from classical to
pop.
A de facto graduate of the
Fats Waller school of stride
piano, Guarnieri impro-
vises on the sound, dropping
into and out of 5/4 time,
playing jazz in a 3/4 waltz
meter and generally having
a ball with a selection of
songs that goes from the
"Maple Leaf Rag" of the
1890s to modern ballads.
