It's been five years since Jim Cammarata has taken over .. . added cocktails .. . a more extensive and imag- inative menu . . . com- pletely decorated it from one end to the other and made it the kind of place a person goes to when some honest-to-goodness home- style Sicilian cooking is wanted. Mr. Jim's Lotsa Pasta seats only 60 people . . . but every inch of space is well- taken . . . by people who go there for a good meal that so closely resembles Italian home cooking. Plus his regular menu, Jim has something he now calls an Italian Festival Dinner, Sunday through Thursday . . . It's from soup to nuts .. . literally and figuratively speaking .. . for eight or more people .. . at $14.95 per person . . . The eight is because of such large preparation for all the food. We had this feast and it was every bit as good as we'd been told .. . plus being very well worth the money . . . Trip to the Italian antipasto salad bar, soup (I had gas also Enjoy Our Fine Menu Downstairs In The Beautiful and Intimate /964 Steak Bar Including . . . There's no stopping be- cause it's all served family- style . . . Folks liking some- thing particularly well and wanting more can have it . . . at no extra charge .. . But Mr. Jim's does need 24 hours notice. Our waitress, Marlene Porter, was courteous, effi- cient and smilingly pleas- ant . . . Jim is a working boss . . . putting an apron over his vest and cooking a lot of those goodies his fine waitresses serve. There's entertainment also . . . and the gent now appearing is among the finest one-man shows on the east side . . . Bill Murphy, very talented guitarist- vocalist handling a clever repartee with his audience . . . plus singing songs from Italian operas to "Hava Nagela," "What I Did For Love," "Sunrise, Sunset," theme from TV's "Love Boat," "Granada," etc. .. . plus Calypso, Spanish, Irish, Mexican and Italian songs. Bill's not afraid to work either ... While we were there he started at 9 and didn't leave his stool until well after 10. I had been hearing so many fine things about Mr. Jim's Lotsa Pasta and fi- nally was able to find out why . . . Hard to beat good Sicilian home cooking . . and that's what Jim is giv- ing . . . to a lot of happy people. JOSH WHITE JR. is at the Railroad Crossing on E.
