David Schoem, a lecturer in education and director of the Alice Lloyd Hall Pilot Program at the University of Michigan, will lead par- ents in a discussion concern- ing ways they can help their children adjust to college life. Schoem will answer ques- tions from parents about inter-faith dating, grades and various pressures suf- fered by college students. Schoem holds a docto- rate in education from University of California at Berkeley, an under- graduate degree from U-M and a master's de- gree from Harvard. Re- cently, he was awarded the Alexander M. Dushkin Prize from He- brew University for the "Dissertation of the De- cade" for his paper on "Ethnic Survival in America: Ethnography of a Jewish Afternoon School." Some 200 scientists from 20 countries participated. It was the first time the con- ference was held in Israel. The major aim of the confer- ence was to examine the contextual problems of the modern simulation tech- niques, including computer simulation, gaming simula- tion, theory of games and applications, games for teaching and training and social simulation. lip.
