Semitism, the 350,000 Jews
of Argentina will be flown to
Brazil by prior arrange-
ment, according to an arti-
cle by Reuters correspon-
dent Alan Elsner, in the Is-
raeli monthly Monitim.
The plan was revealed by
the Hebrew Immigrant Aid
Society (HIAS), an organ-
ization active in the trans-
fer of Soviet Jewish emi-
grants to Western coun-
tries. Elsner credits HIAS
sources with maintaining
that Brazilian President
Joan Baptista Figuerido
promised HIAS President
Ed Shapira to grant refuge
to the Argentinian Jews in
case of evacuation.
