Danny Raskin's

The Best of Everything

WHEN ONE FIRST,
hears the name Silverman's
Restaurant, natural as-
sumption could be that it is
a delicatessen.
However, Silverman's
Restaurants, which have
been gaining such tremen-
dous high-rave notoriety,
are that too . . . and a whole
lot more.
Owner Bob Silverman,
who eight months ago
weighed over 400 pounds
and through an operation in
Missouri had his stomach
shrunk to reduce an over-
whelming appetite . . . and
has lost over 200 pounds .. .
still believes in a lot of good
food . . . for others to enjoy
. . . at low prices.
He has two places now
... on Ford Rd. in West-
land ... and on 10 Mile
Rd. and Meadowbrook
(A & P Shopping Center)
in Novi.
We went to the 10 Mile
restaurant that seats 117
. . . (the one on Ford Rd.
seats about 77) . . . and saw
a menu that had 26 differ-
ent kinds of hamburgers .. .
including a T-Burger where
you actually get a T-shirt
when buying the burger! .. .
43 kinds of omelettes . .
froin all nations . . . any
type the imagination can
think of . . . and more .. .
from steak omelettes . . . to
egg foo young omelettes to a
surprise creation to your
own creation.
Anything customers can
think of, Bob's staff will
make an omelette for you!
. . . There's eight salads .1 . .
11 dinners . . . sandwiches
galore . . . big and bigger .. .
all kinds of desserts and
drinks.
Silverman's is one of the
most interesting restau-
rants we've visited in a
while . . . all seating jri very
private-like booths . . . with
canvas top - "s ides to match
the canvas lamp shades and
canvas canopy over an
eight-seat counter . . . The
handiwork of interior de-
corator designer Cary
Greenberg, Silverman's in
Novi has a tree in the center
with lighted lattice work
above it . . . Lattice work in
front of a mirrored wall
makes it look like another
room.
It's all done in unfinished
and natural knotty pine
wood paneling . . . so clean
and refreshing.
There were four of us
. . . Marilyn Frumkin and
my wife Frieda had
Breast of Chicken
Teriyaki . . . Sid Frumkin
had a mammoth
Stroganoff Omelette fil-
led with oodles of beef . . .
I had a Russian Burger
... topped with sour
cream and sliced beets.
The salads were luscious
looking and my creamy cole
slaw delicious.
Sid had potatoes fried
with its skins on and grilled
onions mixed among them
. . . I had the same potatoes
but without onions.
Talk about ingenious
ways, the Chicken Teriyaki
eaten by the gals also came

II

with fortune cookies.
Before dinner, we all had
non-alcoholic Amaretto
Coffee . . . so very good and
tastes like chocolate .. .
fried green pepper rings,
onion rings, zucchini slices
and whole mushrooms.
A different dessert for
everyone ... cheese cake
with strawberries and
carrot cake from New
York, Grasshopper cake
and Apple Crisp with ice
cream ... all with eye-
rolling deliciousness.
Silverman's is so very
clean ... the large kitchen
is a pleasure . . . and good to
see the kitchen help wear-
ing hats.
Silverman's is open
seven-days-a-week . . . with
all-you-can-eat specials
everyday from 7 a.m. to 9
p.m.
Our waitress in Novi, Pat
Phillips, was wonderful .. .
so very jolly, personable, ef-
ficient and ever smiling .. .
Pat's good . . . real good.
