Miss Markowitz attends the University of Detroit School of Dental Hygiene. Tisha b'Av, the tradi- tional day of mourning for the destruction of the tem- ples in Jerusalem, will be marked at Adat Shalom Synagogue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. During the Maariv serv- ice, the Book of Ekha will be chanted by Cantor Larry Vieder and the adult and teenage members of the congregation. The three Young Israel branches, Greenfield, Oak-Woods and South- field, will have Minha services at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, followed by Celebration of Jewish Arts Slated by u-rin Hillel Fund The Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation at the Univer- sity of Michigan announces its sponsorship of a Celebra- tion of Jewish Arts, an an- nual subscription series of the best in Jewish music, dance and entertainment. The 1981-1982 series will be inaugurated Oct. 17 with a performance by Theodore Bikel at the Power Center for the Performing Arts at U-M. The second performance of the series will be Jan. 9 featuring the Broadway actor Murray Horwitz in "An Evening of Sholom Aleichem" at Mendelssohn Theater. The final evening of the series will be Feb. 11 featuring raconteur Sy Kleinman and the Mickey Shur band. Series tickets are now on sale at the Hillel Founda- tion in Ann Arbor. Tickets for individual performances can be purchased, if there are any still available, two weeks before each perform- ance. Only 350 series tic- kets will be sold to the com- munity, the balance being reserved for sale by Hillel for students.
