Rgemplinimigninnomomp THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS. 42 Friday, July 31, 1981 AJCongress Suit Asks Data on Arab Wealth from U.S. WASHINGTON (JTA) — The American Jewish Con- gress Tuesday brought suit in Federal District Court here for copies of Treasury Department records show- ing the dollar holdings of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Acting under the Free- dom of Information Act, the Jewish group asked for the release of government documents listing the amount of funds on deposit in U.S. banks and the amounts of Treasury bills owned or held by the three Arab oil-producing states. Joel Levy of Washington, a vice president of the AJ- Congress, filed the suit. An earlier request for the information was denied by the Treasury Department, which said that the Interna- tional Investment Survey Act and the Bretton Woods Agreements Act precluded the government from dis- closing the information sought. In requesting the docu- ments, Marc Stern, staff at- torney for the AJCongress, wrote to the Treasury De- partment: "A matter of par- ticular concern to the American Jewish Congress is the growing size of in- vestments by Arab coun- tries in the United States, with a concomitant increase in influence by those coun- tries over American foreign policy in the Middle East. The information obtained under this request . . . may form the basis for recom- mendation for further legis- lation." Argovs Represent Israel at Wedding LONDON (JTA) — Israel was represented at Wed- nesday's wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer by Ambassador and Mrs. Shlomo Argov. Israel's head of state was not invited, it is believed, because Israel is not a monarchy, or a member of the commonwealth, EEC or NATO. However, President Navon is understood to have sent a wedding present. Sir Immanuel Jakobovitz, the chief rabbi of England, was one of a number of non-Christian spiritual leaders who did not receive an invitation to the ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral. This is because it was a private rather than a state occasion and the chief rabbi's office denies that it feels Jakobovitz has been snubbed. HERE'S A SENSIBLE WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM THAT REALLY WORKS!
