A biblical prohibition,
Deuteronomy 7:3, explicitly
forbids Jews to marry
people of other nations
(religions). The Bible says,
"For he will turn away thy
child from following after
me, and they shall serve
other gods."
Ezra caused the Jews to
separate themselves from
their foreign mates (Ezra
10:11).
Generally speaking, later
authorities have been more
rationalistic in explaining
this prohibition. It seems

on the part of both parties.
The commitment has to in-
clude matters such as faith.

When the two parties
have two different commit-
ments of faith, they cannot
share the commitment of
faith together which is re-
quired for an ideal mar-
riage. While Jews are re-
quired by their faith to be
friends with fellow human
beings, interfaith marriage
was ruled out because it is
impossible to retain a joint
total commitment of faith.

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Police have warned Tel Av-
ivians to be on watch for 10
poisonous snakes stolen
from Tel Aviv University's
zoological garden. Zoo offi-
cials think the reptiles have
been taken by amatuer
snake lovers who wanted
them for a private collec-
tion.
The snakes stolen include
several which no known
antidote is available
against their sting. All are
described as "extremely
dangerous."
