While in the Army, he played in the Honors Band and the Admi- ral's Chamber Orchestra and studied at Naples. He played in orches- tras at Radio City Music Hall and the Broadway show "Man of La Man- cha." He also was the former assistant princi- pal bassist for the Balti- more Symphony, the American Symphony under Leopold Stokowski and the New York Philharmonic. He was a faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Music and taught at the Blossom Festival School since its inception in 1968. He taught students at Kent State, Akron and Youngstown State Univer- sities. Mr. Perlman was an ex- pert on old Italian basses and bows, which he liked to restore to playable condi- tion. — Mr. Perlman is survived by his wife, Rose; a son, Mark of Cleveland Heights; a daughter, Nancy; his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore (Sophie) Penman of South- field; and a brother, Richard of Madison Heights.
